Michael Kempa was born and raised in Toronto and likes to say he grew up (late) in South Africa, Northern Ireland, and Australia. From his new home of Ottawa, he looks at trends in policing around the world. He is especially interested in the ways in which policing programs reflect and support particular systems for economy and politics. He is passionate about the potential for studying and teaching social theory to enhance our understanding of how power, ideas, technologies and resources interact with one another, and how this learning creates opportunities for students and citizens to engage planetary renewal through the opportunity structures available to them.
