Bio/Research

Miriam is a paediatrician based at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, as well as an associate professor at the University of Toronto. She obtained her MD from Queen's University in 1980, and has worked in the area of adolescent health since then. She has authored articles on chronic illness and disability in teens, adolescent development and depression. She is the author of two books, co-author of another two and editor of one. She has frequently given public talks and media interviews on eating disorders, teen motherhood, reproductive technology, and adolsecent sexuality. She has been active in environmental, peace, and lesbian-feminist activism, and has contributed to child care cooperatives and sexual assault care teams. Along with Roberta Benson, she has two children. She has been a member of the SDS Advisory Committee since its creation.
