Bio/Research

I research new and emerging technologies. I’m particularly interested in exploring their societal implications, understanding their varied risks and (un)intended consequences. This can include their social, cultural, political, ethical, and legal implications. Some of my past and ongoing research includes work on contact tracing apps, facial recognition, disinformation and online harms, workplace surveillance, policing and intelligence, and big data.

I’ve conducted research at the Surveillance Studies Centre at Queen’s University and the Canadian Forces College. I hold an MA in war studies from the Royal Military College of Canada, an MA in sociology from Queen’s University, and studied sociology as a PhD candidate from Queen’s University, specializing in digital media, information and surveillance.
