Nancy Nielsen, a past president of the American Medical Association and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, is one of the nation’s leading experts on health care policy and health care reform.She can speak to the media about the impact of the Affordable Care Act on patients and health care providers. She can also discuss a wide range of other topics related to health care policy, including Medicare and Medicaid, regulations, fraud and abuse provisions, quality measures, patient safety initiatives and the need for collaboration and transparency in the health care industry. A member of a local task force on the opioid epidemic, she can talk about what health care providers need to do to start making meaningful differences in this crisis.Throughout her career, Nielsen has promoted policies and reforms that help doctors provide better care for patients. In addition to serving in leadership roles at UB and within the American Medical Association, she completed a two-year appointment as a senior advisor at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.She is a sought-after speaker on a topics involving clinical practice, including clinical integration, professionalism, medical ethics and end-of-life issues.
