I work in the Communication Department at the University of Ottawa with my teaching activities covering both undergraduate and graduate courses.
My research and areas of interest cover media protest and spectacle, the media practices of social movement actors, media events, media and international development.
I received my PhD in 2009 from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), studying in the Department of Media and Communications. My dissertation was entitled 'I Predict a Riot’ – Mediation and Political Contention: Dissent!’s media practices at the 2005 Gleneagles G8 Summit, focused on the ways in which radical social movement actors think about and interact with media at the site of protest. I have now begun publishing aspects of the thesis in various peer reviewed journals while you can view the original text online.
