Partners in Research has honored Prof. Patrick Whippey of the deparetment of Physics & Astronomy with the 2011 The Biomedical Science Ambassador Award (Lay Category). The award recognizes individuals, both lay and scientific, for their exceptional personal contributions in advancing the understanding of and support for biomedical research. The award is presented to “individuals who have made stellar contributions and whose influence radiates from the strength and outreach of their personalities and commitment. These are individuals who truly make a difference.”

Previous recipients of this award include such notable people as Sheldon Aaron, Pierre Berton, Richard Gallop, Dr. Bessie Borwein, Dr.Robert Phillips, Felipe Gomes, Dr. Paul Davenport, Bob McDonald and The Davidson Family among many other Canadians who have made a significant contribution to the scientific endeavour.

Prof. Whippey has been an advocate of science education both inside the university and in the community for over 40 years. Last year he was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Physics Teachers for his career long efforts.
