Bio/Research

Dr. Atkison joined CHWO in 1984. He completed his B.Sc and M.Sc at the University of Waterloo and his Ph.D and M.D. at the University of Calgary. In 1984, Dr. Atkison joined the University of Western Ontario for his Paediatric Residency training. Upon completing his residency he continued to stay on at Western for Fellowship training in Diabetes and Transplant Immunology at The Robarts Research Institute and University Hospital.

Dr. Atkison is currently at the career rank of Associate Professor. He has been in the role of Senior Medical Director, Women and Children’s Services for London Health Sciences Centre and St Joseph’s Health Care in London since 2007 and prior to that was Deputy Chief of Paediatrics from January 2003. He has been Director of Paediatric Transplantation since September 1992. His current clinical responsibilities include the Paediatric Liver & Bowel Transplant Program, Paediatric dysfunctional bowel patients, Acquired Brain Injury inpatients, and Complex Care inpatients.

Dr. Atkison’s administrative responsibilities include Women and Children’s leadership, Senior Hospital leadership committees and provincial Child and Youth Advisory Committee to the Provincial Council for Maternal Child Health.
