I am a biological oceanographer at Memorial University's Ocean Science Centre . My main interests are in larval transport in marine environments and how this contributes to natural patterns. In the past, I have focused on benthic communities - the roles that larval supply and larval response to patchiness in sediments and organic matter play in establishing and maintaining shallow-water and deep-sea communities. Click here for a list of publications. I spent my first six years at Memorial as a member of the Fisheries Conservation Group, where I expanded my work on larval ecology to include fish larval transport and how recruitment variation relates to transport and mortality. In 2002 I moved to the Ocean Sciences Centre to take up a position as a Canada Research Chair in Boreal and Cold Ocean Systems.
My interests include marine community ecology, larval ecology of invertebrates and fish, ecology of benthic invertebrates; hydrodynamic effects on benthic communities and populations, deep-sea ecology, coral reef ecology, biodiversity, disturbance and anthropogenic impacts.
