Brauer's academic career has focused on efforts to improve the effectiveness of diet management of obesity and cardiometabolic risk conditions, and promote increased legume and vegetable consumption.
Brauer was active in team-based primary health care reform in Ontario and as a member of the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care 2010-15. A registered dietician since 1975, she has been a Dietitians of Canada Board member, editor of the Journal, and Ryley-Jeffs award winner in 2003.
Now retired, and a College Professor Emerita, she continues to work on several projects and advise others on their dietetic implementation projects.
