Bio/Research

Prof. Menzies is a faculty member in the Ruminant Health Management group, she is currently the Sheep Research Coordinator for the University of Guelph, and the Clinic Head - Ambulatory Clinics, Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Her research interests in small ruminants (sheep and goats) focus on disease control programs, health management and measuring productivity (EweByte) and on-farm food safety.

Diseases of specific interest to her are internal parasites, abortion diseases (Q Fever, chlamydiosis, toxoplasmosis), maedi visna, caseous lymphadenitis, mastitis of sheep and goats, scrapie, nutritional diseases such as pregnancy toxaemia, selenium deficiency and copper toxicity. She is also very interested in improving access for sheep and goats to pharmaceuticals through MUMS initiatives (Minor Use Minor Species) and vaccines.
