Bio/Research

Dr. Peter W.B. Phillips, an international political economist, is Professor and Head of Political Studies, Professor of Public Policy in the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy and an associate member in the departments of Economics (Arts College), Bioresource Policy, Business and Economics (Agriculture College) and Management (Edwards School of Business) at the University of Saskatchewan. He has just completed a concurrent appointment as Professor-at-Large at the Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Western Australia (2006-8). He previously worked for 13 years in industry and government and held the Van Vliet Chair in Agricultural Economics and the NSERC-SSHRC Chair in Managing Knowledge-based Agri-food Development at the U of S. His research and teaching applies the theories and methods of international political economy, economics and public policy to the issue of governing transformative technological innovation. He has research projects and has published on: intellectual property management; innovation systems; trade, marketing, regulation and supply chain management of new technologies; the economic impact of agricultural biotechnology; and governance theory and practice.
