Dr. Peter Tyedmers is an ecological economist whose recent research explores the biophysical costs and relative sustainability of fisheries and aquacultural production systems. He earned his Ph.D. from the Resource Management and Environmental Studies program at the University of British Columbia where he evaluated both the salmon farming industry and the commercial salmon fishery in British Columbia using ecological footprint and energy analysis. Prior to undertaking his Ph.D. he received a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Earth Science from the University of Waterloo and an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia. More generally, his research interests include refining biophysical accounting tools to better assess the sustainability of alternative technologies, and the substitution of ecosystem services by technology systems.
