Rachel Berman's research focuses on race in early childhood settings. From 2014-16 she co-led a project that explored young children's perceptions of race, and early childhood educators' perspectives on racial incidents in childcare. Her current research, with ECS colleague Dr. Janelle Brady, is gathering the perspectives of Black mothers, Black early childhood educators, and Black elders regarding racism and ideas for Black affirming pedagogy in child care settings. Dr. Berman served as the Graduate Program Director for the MA in Early Childhood Studies from 2016 to 2023.
