Bio/Research

Ramsey Tracy is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies in the Department of Language and Culture Studies. Her teaching specialties are centered within Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies as well as all levels of the Spanish language. In her courses, Dr. Tracy’s students explore artistic and literary expression as representations of distinct moments in the development of Latin American cultures. Her most specialized courses focus on Mexico, the Caribbean, Indigenous and Afro-Latin America, visual art, testimonial, and popular music.

Dr. Tracy’s research on popular representations of post-colonial social movements in Latin America examines rhetorical technique and aesthetics within dissident artistic genres. Her continued interest in Mexico and indigenous language studies have led to her work on with storytelling traditions among the Maya of the Quintana Roo. She is director of the Fondo cultural de la Guerra de Castas, a Yucatec Mayan oral history archive, and is currently completing a book on Mayan language memory practices, titled: Conflict, Myth, and History in Contemporary Macehual Popular Narrative.
