Bio/Research

Dr. Shapiro is a molecular microbiologist whose research focuses on examining genetic pathways that regulate virulence and antifungal drug resistance in fungal pathogens. Currently, she works to develop cutting-edge CRISPR-based genomic technologies to better understand the biology of these fungal species.

Shapiro completed her bachelor's degree in biology at McGill University, and her PhD at the University of Toronto in the Department of Molecular Genetics, where she worked with Dr. Leah Cowen. She then held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Broad Institute and MIT, working with Dr. Jim Collins.
