Sieber's research program addresses the use and value of information and communications technologies (ICT) in social movements and in marginalized, poor and rural communities. She focuses on three forms of ICTs, which are geographic information systems (GIS), e-commerce, and the Internet. The social movements she primarily studies are urban community-based organizations and conservation/environmental grassroots organizations. Marginalized communities are characterized as poor, native or rural.
