Bio/Research

My research publications have appeared in such journals as the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Canadian Journal of Economics, the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, the Journal of Fixed Income, the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting and the Journal of Futures Markets.

My main research interests include: behavioral finance; investor knowledge and pension fund design; experimental asset markets; investment fund performance; fixed-income return enhancement; modeling and predicting interest rates; pricing and hedging futures; and the relationship between financial markets and the macroeconomy. (Click on ‘research’ for published papers and working papers.)

I have consulted for large and small firms in the private sector as well as government agencies. Projects have included the behavioral aspects of investment, saving and pension design; the predictability of interest rates; designing risk management programs; expert testimony on hedging; capital market performance, etc. In addition, I have addressed business audiences on numerous occasions. (See professional website link above for additional information.)

At McMaster I have taken on several key administrative positions, serving as Chair of Finance and Business Economics (2002-04), on Faculty Council (several terms) and in the University Senate (1996-97).

As for teaching, I have conducted a variety of courses such as Behavioral Finance, Security Analysis, Portfolio Management, Derivatives, and Applied Investment Management. Aside from teaching at McMaster, I have taught externally at the University of Toronto, Concordia University (in Montreal) and Rollins College (in the USA). (See below for a listing of courses taught.) Moreover, I have taught groups of executives abroad, and am currently a Visiting Scholar at the Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung in Mannheim, Germany.
