Richard Margerum is an academic expert in environmental planning, land-use issues, and collaborative planning and management. At the University of Oregon, he is head of and a professor in the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management and the director of the Master of Community and Regional Planning Program. Rich also specializes in collaborative governance and conflict resolution. He authored the book Beyond Consensus: Improving Collaboration to Solve Complex Problems (MIT Press, 2011). His work, on topics from growth policies for cities to landowner motivations for watershed restoration, has also appeared in the refereed journals Journal of Transport and Land Use, Society and Natural Resources, Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Land Use Policy, Journal of the American Planning Association, and more.
