Developing new therapies and identifying people who are at high-risk of inheriting certain diseases.
Dr. Hegele directs a tertiary referral lipid clinic for Southwestern Ontario with about 1500 active patients. As a scientist, his laboratory has focussed on research in dyslipidemia, diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension and obesity in Canadian sub-populations and aboriginal communities. Alone or in collaboratively, his laboratory has discovered the molecular genetic basis of several human diseases.
