My research aims to develop scientific understanding and improved algorithms in the areas of machine learning, and heuristic search, and to explore practical applications of techniques in these areas. My current machine learning research investigates cost-sensitive learning and learning in game-playing, including opponent modelling in poker, and adaptive commercial computer games. My research on heuristic search investigates automatic techniques for speeding up search, such as the automatic creation of search heuristics.
