Robert K. Kaufmann, PhD, is a Full Professor in the Department of Earth and Environment and the Center for Energy & Environmental Studies at Boston University, a position he has held since September 2003. His research focuses on world oil markets, global climate change, the global carbon cycle and deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon.
His model of the world oil market is part of Project LINK, a global econometric model that was founded by Nobel Laureate Lawrence Klein and is now supported by the United Nations. He has done consulting work for the Japan National Oil Corp., the European Central Bank, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He has also served as an Associate Professor (1995 to 2003) and Assistant Professor (1989 to 1995) in his department at Boston University.
Kaufmann has published dozens of journal articles, book chapters, reports and reviews. He is the author of three books, including “An Introduction to the Global Environment: An Ecological Economic Perspective” with C. J. Cleveland (McGraw-Hill). He received his PhD in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. He also holds an MA in Economics from the University of New Hampshire and a BS in Biology with honors from Cornell University.
