Thurman, who holds the first endowed chair in Buddhist studies in the West, studied Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism for almost 30 years as a personal student of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In addition, his scholarly and popular writings focus on the “inner revolution” that individuals and societies successfully negotiate when they achieve “enlightenment.”
