Breslow has received international recognition for his breakthroughs in cancer research and other work, such as the discovery—early in his career—of the natural molecular inner workings of vitamin B1. He is regarded as a pioneer in biomimetic chemistry, a method of scientific inquiry that involves mimicking the laws of nature to create synthetic compounds. Breslow, the author of hundreds of publications, has been instrumental in creating 1,000 synthetic chemical compounds, including SAHA, which fights cancer.
