Bio/Research

Prior to accepting his position at UB, professor Maimone taught as a mathematics instructor at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. He began working as an educator in 2002 for secondary education. After earning the necessary degrees he started his illustrious career as a college professor, at Seminole State College. During his this time he taught a variety of mathematics courses, including Pre-Algebra, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I and Calculus II. In all of his classes, whether developmental or college level, he consistently works to create a classroom that offers a challenging and stimulating environment for himself and his students. It is an environment he characterizes as a “community of learners.” In each of his classes, he strives to foster an atmosphere of trust and respect. He is regarded as a practitioner rather than a researcher. He has spent countless hours researching pedagogy, instructional technology, and college readiness strategies. The primary purpose of that research was to better his skills as an educator and to improve the quality of teaching as a whole at any educational institution. In addition to being a college instructor for eight years he also worked as a middle and high school teacher for three. While working as a college math instructor the one constant he finds is the majority of my students are not college ready. They struggle with the fundamentals and have an overwhelming fear of mathematics stemming from a lack of preparedness on the part of the high schools and also middle schools. He intends to expand not only the depth of knowledge of mathematics but also the breadth in order to play a significant role here at UB.
