Bio/Research

Dr Sheps’ research focuses on surgical and health service wait times, adverse medical events, measuring quality of care, and trends in the use of care by the elderly in British Columbia. He is also currently the principal investigator on a Health Canada-funded project assessing approaches to governance and safety in non-health industries.

He co-authored results from the Canadian National Adverse Events Study, has published on acute care utilization and the impact of hospital downsizing, and serves as a reviewer for numerous journals (CMAJ, CJPH, Social Science in Medicine, JAMA).

Dr Sheps earned his MD from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, completed his residency training in pediatrics at the Montreal Children's Hospital, was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at McGill University where he obtained an MSc in epidemiology, and spent a year at the London School of Economics in the Department of Social Planning and Administration.
