Dr. Klar is an expert in political behavior and public opinion. She uses experimental methods (in and outside the lab), surveys, and other statistical tools. She received her PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University and also holds degrees in political science from Columbia University and McGill University.
Dr. Klar’s book, Independent Politics, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2016. In it, she examines why so many Americans refrain from identifying with a party label and what the broader consequences are for American politics. Her research appears in top journals, including the American Journal of Political Science, The Journal of Politics, Science, Nature Human Behavior, and many others. This work has received many different awards from the American Political Science Association, the Midwest Political Science Association, and the American Association for Public Opinion Research. Her research is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Time-sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences, the Social Science Research Council, and other organizations.
She has written about her research in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and for CNN.com and has worked as an expert consultant on matters relating to polling, political behavior, and campaigns.
