Bio/Research
Dr. Connolly earned her M.Ed in College Student Development and her Ph.D in Higher Education Administration from The State University of New York at Buffalo. Her dissertation examined the impact of First Year Experience Courses on Social Integration for first year female students. Dr. Connolly has over 15 years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses as well as supervising and advising students. She has mentored and advised graduate students from their first course through Masters Thesis. She also has over 15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in student affairs, including Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Orientation at Florida State University. As a professional in Student Affairs, Dr. Connolly worked primarily with first year students, creating transition programming and leading University retention efforts. She has extensive experience in scholarly projects, presentations and writing textbooks. Her research titled, New Student Orientation in Online Education, was selected to receive the 2008 ACPA Commission for Admissions, Orientation and the First-Year Experience (AOFYE) Research Grant. Dr. Connolly’s research interests include first year experiences and programs, causes of attrition and retention improvement, student services in online education and perceptions of professional preparation programs. Her most recent publication, Online Education in Professional Preparation, examined professional perceptions of online education for Student Affairs Education.
