Dr. Iverson studies the physiological and biochemical mechanisms which constrain or provide opportunities for the evolution of reproductive strategies in mammals. In this regard, lipid metabolism in marine mammals is a primary focus of her research, due to the extreme patterns exhibited in these species. The use of fatty acids as indicators of diets in marine mammals is a major portion of the research program.
