Sasha Bernatsky is a rheumatologist with a PhD in epidemiology from McGill University. Her research focuses on outcomes in the rheumatic diseases, including morbidity, mortality, and the economic impact of conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), juvenile idiopathic arthritis,systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and fibromyalgia. A great part of her research has focused on a large international cohort study of cancer and mortality in SLE. Further investigations include assessing various risk factors for cancer in SLE and using various administrative database sources to assess outcomes in rheumatic diseases. These endeavours focus on health-related outcomes in RA, SLE, and other systemic autoimmune rheumatic conditions, and the economic impact of rheumatic diseases.
