Sassen’s research and writing focus on globalization (its social, economic and political dimensions), immigration, global cities, the new networked technologies, and changes within the liberal state that result from current transnational conditions. Her books include Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages and A Sociology of Globalization. She recently completed for UNESCO a five-year project on sustainable human settlement; she set up a network – which has since been published – of researchers and activists in more than 30 countries.
