Bio/Research

His research focuses on the economics of food, health and the environment. One major interest is how food and nutrition policies affect consumers. Current and recent projects in this area include the use of food price interventions to address public health concerns; the role of agricultural policies on nutrition; and how consumers value social aspects of food relative to other attributes. He also conducts research in the areas of environmental regulation and resource conservation, including projects on household valuation of water system improvements in Mexico; invasive species management; and resource use in households impacted by AIDS in Uganda. He serves on the executive committees of the Food Safety and Nutrition Section of the American Agricultural Economics Association and the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics, and recently served on a National Academy of Sciences Panel reviewing USDA invasive species activities.
