Dr. Kelly is fascinated by rurally located places of destination whether they are premised on an area’s significant natural heritage, unique settlement pattern, abundant recreational offerings – places typically characterized as resort environments. These places have brought benefits to many rural communities although in some instances they have degraded rural technologies. Kelly and his students work towards understanding how physical design and planning can ameliorate negative impacts on these rural environments.
