Dr. Bates’ clinical and academic interests are in venous thromboembolism, with a focus on thrombosis issues in women. Dr. Bates was lead author for the chapter examining the use of antithrombotic agents during pregnancy in the 7th, 8th and 9th editions of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Evidence-Based Clinical-Practice Guidelines for Antithrombotic and Thrombolytic Therapy and for a new chapter examining the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis for the 9th edition of the ACCP Clinical-Practice Guidelines.
