Bio/Research

Sharon A. Lloyd, a foremost scholar on the theory of philosopher Thomas Hobbes, has a joint appointment with the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on contemporary moral and social issues, political philosophy and its history, animal rights and liberal feminist philosophy. Professor Lloyd teaches both contemporary and historical political philosophy, historical moral philosophy and philosophy of law. She also co-directs the USC Center for Law and Philosophy.

A co-editor of Pacific Philosophical Quarterly and editorial associate of Law and Philosophy, Professor Lloyd is author of Ideals and Interests in Hobbes’s Leviathan (Cambridge University Press, 1992) and the forthcoming Cases in the Law of Nature: The Moral Philosophy of Thomas Hobbes.

Professor Lloyd attended the University of California, Los Angeles and earned her Ph.D. in philosophy from Harvard University.
