She received her Bachelor's degree with a painting major from Reed College in Portland, OR. She also studied at Tyler School of Art in Rome. She received her MFA in painting in 1984 from the University of Florida.
From 1984 - 2004 she worked as a staff artist at the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida. Her work currently on display there includes 5 large scale habitat murals, and graphic design in the Butterfly Rainforest as well as the museum logo.
Breheny has exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the Southeast and is represented in many private collections.
She is currently working as an independent artist as well as teaching at Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.
