Dr. Bandiera’s research is focused largely on hepatic drug metabolism and environmental toxicology. Current studies include (a) the mechanisms by which hormones regulate expression of cytochrome P450 enzymes, (b) the effects of exposure to specific drugs and xenobiotics on cytochrome P450-mediated activities and protein levels, (c) analysis of structure-activity relationships for the various toxic effects of organochlorine compounds, (d) analysis of CYP-mediated biotransformation of organochlorine compounds, and (e) hepatic metabolism of bile acids and the influence of hepatic bile acid levels on cytochrome P450 enzymes.
