Bio/Research

Dr. Stephen Hwang is one of the leading researchers on homelessness and health in North America. He is a Research Scientist at the Centre for Research on Inner City Health at St. Michaelís Hospital, and he holds a prestigious New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Dr. Hwang completed his undergraduate training at Harvard University, his medical degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and his master of public health degree at the Harvard School of Public Health. He was a Physician with the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program from 1992 to 1996. Dr. Hwang joined the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1996 and was appointed the Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Torontoin 2005. Dr. Hwang is a Staff Physician at St. Michaelís Hospital and Seaton House, one of the largest homeless shelters in Canada.
