Bio/Research
Currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University I have been the Director of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Pediatric Palliative Care Program since 1995. My goal is to help bring back the oft-neglected role of the physician in promoting healing/whole person care, regardless of whether the outcome is a cure or not. I believe that one way to actualize whole person care is via mindfulness and from this flows my personal & professional interests.
Research is focused on better understanding the needs of children with life-limiting illness and their families. Research includes evaluating how to ensure that children do not suffer unnecessarily as well as looking at how to best support families through the death of a child.
