Morse researches the epidemiology of emerging infections (a concept he originated), international cooperation for infectious disease surveillance, and defense against bioterrorism. His myriad affiliations with outside groups include his work as an adviser for the World Health Organization, the Pan-American Health Organization, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Department of Defense. His 1993 book Emerging Viruses was selected by American Scientist magazine for its list of “The Top 100 Science Books of the Century.”
