Gregory researches the formation and reproduction of social hierarchies and political identities in the United States and, more recently, in the Caribbean, where he is examining the impact of globalization on social structures and cultural practices in the Dominican Republic. His other academic interests include race and gender studies, urban ethnography and political economy and globalization. He is the author of Black Corona: Race and the Politics of Place in an Urban Community and Santeria in New York City: A Study in Cultural Resistance.
