Bio/Research

Susan DiVietro, PhD is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Connecticut and a training consultant for the Domestic Violence Professional Education and Consultation Project at Saint Francis Hospital. She has a longstanding interest in gender, health, violence, and sexuality, and her doctoral research focused on domestic violence and social support in various communities throughout CT. She has been involved in many anthropological research projects on a range of topics including: healing workshops with recently incarcerated domestic violence victims, women's sexuality over the life course, and sexual decision-making processes among African Americans and Latinos living in Hartford. Her recent work brings anthropological research methods to the implementation of domestic violence screening programs. In her teaching, she uses anthropological theories to enhance links between curriculum and student experience. She continually pursues creative teaching strategies while helping students develop skills necessary to evaluate, synthesize, and analyze material.
