Bio/Research

Dr. Evers' primary research focus is the growth and dietary intake of children and adolescents who are living in economically disadvantaged communities in Ontario. These communities are participants in Better Beginnings, Better Futures, a longitudinal child health initiative that started in 1992. Recent analyses have documented a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in these populations; and, the persistence of obesity among young children from age 4 to age 9 years. Dr. Evers has also assessed the health behaviours of adolescents in Perth County, Ontario. Current research involves an assessment of overweight and obesity, dietary intake and other health behaviours among adolescents in a First Nations community. Dr. Evers is a co-investigator with the Prenatal Health Study and is responsible for the analysis of the dietary intake of 2600 pregnant women living in London, Ontario.
