Bio/Research

In collaboration with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR), and scientists from the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratories, Dr. Marino has identified high-risk amino acid substitutions on the mismatched HLA class I molecules in stem cell transplantation (non-permissive amino acid substitutions).

Dr. Marino is interested in using genomic and proteomic markers for better selection of compatible hematopoietic cell transplant donors to reduce incidence and severity of acute graft-versus host as well as to increase patient survival.
