Professor Todd's research includes both theoretical and practically oriented topics. For this reason he has been heavily funded by the Canadian telecommunications industry and his graduates typically find jobs in academia and in leading companies in the field.
Over the past five years Dr. Todd and his students have had extensive collaboration with Research In Motion Inc., makers of the Blackberry wireless handheld, and other organizations. Professor Todd is also currently the Chief Technology Officer for ErgoWiFi Inc., which is a high tech startup that is commercializing technology developed in his lab at McMaster University.
