Bio/Research
Since arriving in 1986, Tim has taught a wide range of courses at Queen's including design, directing, theatre administration and musical theatre. He received his PhD. from the University of Toronto's Graduate Centre for the Study of Drama where his doctoral thesis, and much of his subsequent writing, examined late nineteenth-century lighting design and staging.
Since the 1970's Tim has been active as a designer, director, and performer in the professional theatre. A member of the Associated Designer's of Canada, he has designed lighting and/or scenery for over 200 productions including, in the spring of 2008, the world premiere of And All For Love at the National Arts Centre. In the Kingston area, he has recently designed lighting for 39 Steps, Till It Hurts, and The Marvelous Wonderettes (which he also directed) at the Thousand Islands Playhouse. He has also directed and designed several productions (including Chantecler, Marry Me A Little, and Goblin Market) for Theatre Kingston at the Baby Grand. In the summers, Tim has spent the past 40 years at the Weston Playhouse in Weston, Vermont (serving as producing director since 1988) where he has had the opportunity to work with, and learn from, many top notch Broadway and Regional performers and designers. At Weston he has directed more than 50 productions including the recent Vermont premieres of Les Misérables, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Souvenir, and Avenue Q. For many years Tim has also supervised the Playhouse's Young Company training program as well as its after-hours cabaret.
