Bio/Research

Todd Tietchen specializes in 20th Century American Literature and Culture, American Philosophy and Intellectual History, Cold War Studies, Transnational Studies (with an emphasis on the Atlantic Regions), and Literary and Aesthetic Theory. His essays on figures such as Ishmael Reed, Andy Warhol, and the writers of the Beat Generation have appeared in publications such as Discourse, Mosaic, Western American Literature and Arizona Quarterly. His first book, The Cubalogues: Beat Writers in Revolutionary Havana (University Press of Florida, 2010), explored the allure of the early Cuban Revolution for several key figures within the Beat Movement. He remains particularly interested in the experimental arts and the avant-garde during the Cold War era, especially those figures associated with the Beat Generation, the New York School, the San Francisco Renaissance, and the Black Mountain School.
