Dr. Van Rhijn is an interdisciplinary social scientist whose research interests include parent-child relationships, child development, early childhood education and care, child and family well-being, family relations, and various aspects of work-life integration (as well as school-life or school-work-life integration) for non-traditional students in formal post-secondary education, in particular mature students and student parents. One of her current projects is investigating families' experiences with early childhood services for their children with special needs. Another project focuses on partnered mature students and the influences between intimate partner relationships and school success.
