Bio/Research

Victor Zhong is an Assistant Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo and a Canada CIFAR AI Chair at the Vector Institute. His research focuses on developing efficient machine learning methods that interpret language to generalize to new environments. Through his research group, the Reading to Learn Lab, Dr. Zhong works on creating grounded language agents capable of interpreting complex data, utilizing adaptive curriculum learning, and improving through language feedback.

As a researcher with extensive experience in both academia and industry—including roles at Microsoft Research, Meta AI, Google Brain, and Salesforce Research—he leads efforts to bridge the gap between natural language processing and generalizable decision-making systems.

Research interests: Machine learning, natural language processing, grounded language agents, adaptive curriculum learning, generalization.
