Friends, Lovers, Parents. Known as the Love Nurse, my research and clinical interests focus on the intimacy of the parenting couple which is part of perinatal sexuality. I study the relationship between love and health, specifically between the intimacy and sexuality dimensions in the conjugal/marital relationship and perinatal outcomes. I use the interpersonal perceptual approach which involves self-perceptions and meta-perceptions. Their various combinations produce three levels of similarity: actual similarity, perceived similarity and understanding. These similarities are at the heart of intimacy, a concept that I study in depth. I am also interested in human sexuality and health care, and in the needs of francophone parenting couples in Ontario.
I am an assistant professor at the School of Nursing and also a researcher collaborator with the Laboratory of Human Sexuality at the University of Ottawa. My doctorate degree is in biomedical sciences from the Université de Montréal and my master’s degree in nursing is from McGill University. I have worked as a nurse for many years in the hospital (antepartum unit, birthing unit, postpartum unit) and in community health (early childhood family programme). In my clinical practice, I explain to couples how it is important for them to remember that they are a couple even if they are parents
