Vit Bubenik is Professor of Linguistics at Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Canada. His current main field is Indo-European Linguistics with specialization in Indo-Aryan and Hellenic families. He is applying modern theories of morphology (Natural Morphology) and syntax (Functional Syntax) to the study of earlier stages of Indo-Aryan (Sanskrit, Prakrits, Apabhramsa) and Hellenic (Classical, Hellenistic and Byzantine Greek). His other current interests include Areal Linguistics (esp. Balkan Sprachbund), Semitic Linguistics (esp. the issues of tense and aspect) and Romani Linguistics.
